Yes, it is a food-related question. I remember a few years back, during one of the ice-breaker sessions we had for new joiners at my ex-company, this was the question that was chosen for everyone to answer.
As a foodie, I took this as a personal insult. Once I was over that feeling, I got to thinking, “What could I eat and not grow tired of for the rest of my life?” Some of my colleagues at the time said “Nasi lemak” or “Chili pan mee from that one warong behind my house” but I didn’t think I could eat the same thing until the day I die, no matter how much I love it.
So, I thought to myself, “What do I enjoy eating which could maybe have some variety to it?” and the answer was simple; hotpot. So, my answer to this question at the time (which still stands true today) is tomyam hotpot soup.
I had to be specific, yes, because hear me out: I crave the sweet and sour and spicy in every meal. Tomyam gives me that flavour. Also, I love tomyam and Thai food in general so I felt like it’s an obvious choice, compared to chicken essence soup or any other type of soup. Plus, it’s always my go-to soup base at hotpot shops anyway.
Okay, to explain why hotpot soup though, it’s simple. I can plop anything into a hotpot. Meat, seafood, veggies, noodles, rice, and even eggs and dairy if I’m feeling up for it. It’s perfect for a hot day or cold day. I get to control how much I put into the soup based on how hungry I am at that moment. Foolproof!
So, what do you think your choice would be if you had to pick just one food to be satisfied with for the rest of your life?
