Today was my first official working day after a few months of chilling at home. One of the countless online forms I had to fill up today had some interesting questions, and one made me pause and ponder.
“If you had superpowers, what would they be?”
I had a few favourites in mind, but to be completely honest, there’s the corporate answer and the tbh answer.
Corporate Answer? Enchantment
Let’s talk about the corporate answer first. I’d say I create magic with my words. Think enchantment spells. Yeah, this is close to what I wrote in the form, which was, verbatim, “I turn ideas into experiences”.
Cringe, I know, but let me explain. I do social media and UX writing, so it’s essentially part of my job to convince people through clear, simple, easily digestible language, taking into account how, where, and when the message is conveyed. These powers of “enchantment” didn’t appear out of nowhere. 5+ years of writing, editing, tweaking, rewriting, and countless crashouts have strengthened my skills.
TBH Answer? Reality Warping
Okay, I’ll stop with corporate speak now. Now for the tbh, non-corporate, silly goofy answer, it would be turning everything into an adventure. In other words, I romanticise all aspects of my life, including the mundane. Call it the power of delusion, but I prefer to see it as reality-warping. If Scarlet Witch can do it, why can’t I?
Of course, when I’m feeling down, my superpowers don’t work very well, but hey, most of the time, they help me and the people around me. I don’t exactly bend reality as well as Wanda, but I reframe this current reality through wearing rose-coloured glasses so it feels richer, softer, and more cinematic.
Lost my way? We’re detouring to explore new places, I guess. Plans got cancelled? Time to create spontaneous ones instead. Commuting to work? Let’s try different routes just for funsies. Everything can be an adventure if you put your mind to it.
