Today was my last official working day. So I went to the office one last time to return my laptop and access card. I dragged Muhiilesh with me so that we can go get brunch in PJ after I’m done. After having brunch at Thong Kee Kopitiam (about a 5-minute walk from the Taman Paramount station of the red LRT Kelana Jaya line), we decided why not just explore KL?

We went on TikTok to find cheap places to explore in KL and found out that the National Art Gallery or Balai Seni Negara had a few interesting exhibitions. The best part for unemployed bois like us was that it was FREE.

We then took the LRT to Ampang Park, and went into the yellow MRT Putrajaya line, coming out at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur station. Then, we had to walk about 11 minutes in the hot sun, crossing busy roads to get to the Gallery. Side note: I wish KL was a more walkable city.

As we entered, we saw a group of paparazzi waiting for someone. We thought that the Manchester United players would be coming, only to later find out that they were waiting for the wife of Vietnam’s prime minister.

We continued on exploring the exhibits. First stop: the Panglima Awang exhibit. It was really informational and both of us spent way more time than expected here. Muhiilesh enjoyed learning about the first man to circumnavigate the world, especially the interactive theatre where we could choose between two scenarios.

Once we fully explored our fellow Malaccan’s history, we went to the Merungkai Bingkai or Into the Frameless exhibit on the highest floor. It was fun because we got to be part of the art, both physically and with the help of AI.

There was also a tingting (hopscotch) that lit up when we hopped on it. It also made A LOT of noise.

We also went to a tribute exhibit for yet another Malaccan: Chung Chen Sun.

Every other exhibit was closed to accommodate the VIP but we had fun exploring what we could nonetheless.

Overall rating:

It would have been 5/5 if we actually covered the whole place. I guess this gives me a reason to go back and explore. #sapotlokal
