I’m a sucker for a good romcom. This isn’t just a typical romcom because it’s also a musical (that itself grants it a double yes from me).
This movie was actually my first formal introduction to ABBA’s music. Yes, I’ve heard a song or two from them in the past but after watching this, I was exposed to more of their discography.
The story was so unbelievably crazy (lowkey didn’t make sense but anything’s possible in a land where people spontaneously burst into song and the people around join in and immediately know the choreography) but it was a whole vibe.

Amanda Seyfried BELTS like rent is due. I never knew Meryl Streep and Christine Baranski could sing like that! I’m sorry Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth my loves, but yall tried your best. I also read somewhere that all the actors were drunk the whole time they filmed the movie and maybe that’s why it felt genuinely feel-good. Because the actors actually felt good making it.
At the end of the movie, I felt like booking a one-way ticket to Greece and settling down there even though I’ve never been anywhere near that country.
Music? Slaps.
Chemistry? Absolutely.
Vibes? Immaculate.
Overall, this movie is:
Disclaimer: This is my comfort movie (read: I rewatched both Mamma Mia! movies so many times, I know most of the dialogue by heart) so I may be slightly biased.
