This month’s new music is not exactly new because it was released in 2010. It’s new to me though, so it made the cut. What song, you ask? It’s Aku Yang Tersakiti by Judika.
I was actually ignorant to his existence (except maybe I’ve heard Muhiilesh play his songs in the car, not sure). But when Muhiilesh got an extra concert ticket to Judika, I thought “Why not listen to some of his songs?”
His songs are what people might consider jiwang or galau, depending on where you’re from. The genre isn’t foreign to me because I very much enjoy angsty, emo, heartache music. Aku Yang Tersakiti basically translates to “I’m the one who’s hurt” and the title itself should tell you that the song is gut-wrenching.
And the fact that it’s Indonesian (not English) means there’s more that can be expressed. Since Malay and Indonesian are somewhat similar, I can understand what he’s saying. But even if you can’t understand the language, the music and the pain in his voice is enough to convey the message I think.
I’ve listened to a few other Judika songs, but I think this song is my favourite so far. I can’t wait to go for his concert in November and get to know more “new” music from him.
