For those who have known me long, you’ll know that I’ve always been a fangirl at heart. And anyone who knew me when I was 12–15 would remember how much I obsessed over Adam Lambert, my glam rock king.
To put into perspective how much of a fangirl I was, For Your Entertainment was the first 3 albums I ever owned (the international, deluxe, and tour versions). I was so disappointed because I couldn’t go see him during the Glam Nation Tour stop at the Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on 14 October 2010.
To commemorate Adam Lambert’s 43rd birthday today, here are my 10 favourite songs by him, in no particular order:
Shady
Favourite lyric: “I throw more shade than a cloudy day”
Whenever this song comes on while on my commute, I march to its beat. It always lifts my spirits up and puts a little extra pep in my step.
Two Fux
Favourite lyric: “Right here, namastay right here”
I think this song is easily my top 3 out of all Adam Lambert songs. The beat, the lyrics, the messaging, the whole vibe. This song is clearly a masterpiece. Sad that this song didn’t get the hype it deserved.
Pick U Up
Favourite lyric: “All my life, I’ve been waiting, past my time, procrastinating now”
This was once my favourite song. For some reason, I remember finding the bridge quite amusing. Fun fact: I actually learned the word “procrastinate” from listening to this song.
Another Lonely Night
Favourite lyric: “And the words fall out, but they got no place to go”
As a hopeless romantic, I like this song a little more than I’d like to admit. The low-pitched “Yeah” sounds like a cow’s moo to me, but it makes the song more memorable.
If I Had You
Favourite lyric: “There’s a thin line, between a wild time, and a flat line, baby tonight”
I’m so glad this was one of his more popular hits that I got to listen to on the radio because it was a struggle stanning non-mainstream artists (still is). The wink at the end of the music video takes me out every time.
Lucy (ft Brian May)
Favourite lyric: “She was bound to break free from the start, girl got that rebel heart”
This is not my usual type because I prefer louder and faster music. But something about this song just captivates me. It’s kind of like The A Team by Ed Sheeran but a rock version. Plus, Brian May sounds AMAZING.
Better Than I Know Myself
Favourite lyric: “I get kind of dark, let it go too far, I can be obnoxious at times, but try and see my heart”
Again, I let the hopeless romantic in me win. This power ballad was emotional but at the same time slightly angsty in my opinion. Plus, the music video was on repeat in my household.
Sure Fire Winners
Favourite lyric: “I was born with glitter on my face, my baby clothes made of leather and lace”
This was one of the songs that I didn’t know was a favourite until I checked how many times I replayed it. Plus, it was a treat to me when they used this song during one of the AXN advertisements.
For Your Entertainment
Favourite lyric: “I bet you thought that I was soft and sweet, you thought an angel swept you off your feet”
Oof. I’m getting secondhand embarrassment thinking about how I used to sing and listen to this song at 12, not knowing what I was singing about.
Trespassing
Favourite lyric: “I don’t need no GPS to show me where to go”
This whole album had songs with sick beats, and this title track has one of the best out of all. The beat sounds similar to Another One Bites The Dust by Queen too, now that I think about it.
Honorable mention: No Boundaries (YouTube | Spotify | Apple Music) that always manages to boost my confidence whenever I feel down.
This was a very difficult list to make because I love most of Adam Lambert’s songs, especially from the For Your Entertainment and Trespassing albums.
