When I planned a trip to Taiwan, I never thought that it would be an art lover’s paradise. I was picturing more of a futuristic society with interconnected cities (because I heard their public transport is top tier, duh!). Little did I know I was going to be stepping into an art lover’s paradise. I’d tell you more, but I think I’ll just show you.
Rainbow Village, Taichung

The lore is that this elderly war veteran painted the houses to save the military settlement from being demolished. Now an art street, this place was so colourful and I was just so in awe. There were a few spots that were vandalised but have since been painted over. If you look closely, you can definitely tell the difference between the old man’s painting and the newer ones.
Cultural Heritage Park, Taichung

I wish I had more time to spend in this park because it was HUGE and had so many things to explore! I only managed to cover about a third of the whole park and it was so interesting. There was a nice mix of architecture, visual art, history, and culture here. I’d definitely make another trip here.
National Taiwan Museum of Comics, Taichung

This place was also huge and really cool! This museum had about 10 areas where we could go into with separate exhibits, one even having old OG editions of famous manga. My inner weeb was SCREAMING. In one of the checkpoints, I was given a colouring page and I took some time to colour it (not very well, but I had a moment of peace).
Chiayi Art Museum, Chiayi

We drove past this place and the building was practically yelling at me to come inside. I took some time to explore it and I was NOT disappointed. I absolutely loved this museum. All the exhibits were so cool, some historically significant, others visually aesthetic. There was even an immersive experience part of the museum!
Animation Lane, Chiayi

Again, my younger weeb self was fangirling so hard at this place. It was just a bunch of murals of anime and cartoons. Animations basically. I wish I had a tripod stand or something because I didn’t get proper pics here, though I spent so long just staring at the artwork.
Camera District, Taipei

Okay, I actually stumbled upon this street accidentally while walking somewhere and it completely distracted me. The graffiti here (if you can even call them that) is so creative. AI could never replicate these for sure. Though it does kinda look like those Italian brainrot creations.
Of course, there were other places I could have explored, but I didn’t have much time between all these and the tours I signed up for. I was happy with my findings but would make another trip to look at the places I’ve missed this time.
