I was exposed to a lot of new music this month. Mr. Fantasy released a new single this month and I was contemplating featuring him again this month. That was, until I started binging DCU work (Superman and Peacemaker). When I tell you that James Gunn has impeccable taste in music, I’m not even kidding.
After narrowing it down to 5 of the songs featured on the Peacemaker series, I decided to go with Dirty Money by Ida Maria.
If you’re curious about the other 4, they are (in no particular order): Oh Lord by Foxy Shazam, Monster by Reckless Love, Six Feet Under by Kissin’ Dynamite, and F**king My Heart in the A** by Steel Panther. It was a difficult decision to even choose these 5, trust me.
Ida Maria is a Norwegian singer and boy can she sing! I love the angsty woman shout-sing genre (I’m sure there is a name for it, but think Olivia Rodrigo, Alanis Morrissette, female rage songs). Her voice complements the lyrics that sound like she’s just done.
The music video for the song has interesting aesthetics which I appreciate. Having animals in your music video will definitely bump up your points by 200%. And the fact that they whole video was in black-and-white was a bold choice, which worked well.
James Gunn, your music taste is goated and I’d like to be like that one day.
