When anyone asks me what my favourite vegetable is, I always think long and hard. Is it my beloved okra? Maybe it’s the eggplant/aubergine/brinjal or whatever you call it. Lately, I’ve realised that my favourite vegetable (and the one of the most eaten vegetables globally) is the POTATO

Here are 10 ways you can consume the mighty potato:

French Fries

The most popular fast food snack would have to be these thinly-sliced deep-fried potatoes. You can either make them from fresh potatoes or buy the frozen french fries from most convenience stores.

Chips/Crisps

Some people rely on potato chips (or crisps in certain parts of the world) as their comfort food, so it’s no surprise that every store, even ones at the petrol station, usually have these in stock.

Potato Wedges

Potatoes can also be made into wedges by slicing them like apples, then baking, frying, or grilling them. My go-to order at KFC is and will always be their cheesy wedges.

Mashed Potatoes

Another one of my usual KFC orders, mashed potatoes are creamy and simple to make. All you need is some milk, butter, salt, pepper, and of course, potatoes!

Potato Salad

If you’re looking for a slightly healthier alternative, you can try potato salads. They are simple to make and can be eaten warm or chilled. The best part? You get to add whatever you want to the salad!

Hash Browns

What English breakfast is complete without hash browns? This guilty pleasure food is a welcome sight in the morning, especially when you’re in a foreign country where you aren’t really a fan of the local breakfast.

Potato Stew

For more savoury food lovers, a potato stew may hit the spot. There are many ways to prepare this stew, but every single one has potato as its staple.

Gnocchi

These cute Italian dumplings have potatoes as their main ingredient. Though you can eat it just like that, some people prefer pouring sauces over them for some extra flavour.

Potato Sambal

One dish my grandma used to make every time we observed a vegetarian diet is the potato sambal. I get hungry quicker when I cut meat out of my diet, but potatoes give me the extra boost I need.

Vodka

Last on this list (but definitely not the least), potatoes can be fermented into vodka. For all the vodka lovers out there, you guys are also eating your vegetables.

Bake it, grill it, fry it, boil it, roast it, or even make it into soup! Though this versatile veggie is delicious no matter how it’s prepared, remember not to eat too much of it to avoid the risk of high potassium and diabetes!
