Movie: Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Year: 2018
Language: English
Length: 1 hour 54 minutes
Where to watch: Netflix

This is the second movie and a prequel to Mamma Mia! (which I reviewed here). Because it was one of my personal top 10 movies of all-time, I was super excited when they announced this movie.

Okay, to be completely honest, I was a little let down when I first watched this. Maybe it was because I had extremely high expectations and rewatched Mamma Mia! to prepare for this movie.

The first comment I have was that the story contradicts the lore that was established in the first movie. Spoiler alert for those of you who haven’t watched the movie yet.

  • The order of dads was supposed to be Sam, Bill, Harry. But in this movie, it was Harry, Bill, Sam, then Bill again.
  • Donna’s mom was said to be dead in the first movie. In this movie, she makes an appearance (her and Donna are estranged but it didn’t make sense)
  • The whole timeline of things doesn’t add up to me.

It wasn’t a bad movie. Lily James and the rest of the cast were all “chef’s kiss*. The young cast all did an awesome job, especially baby Tanya. I would have believed that that’s how they looked like in the past.

The plot twist at the end was done perfectly. Plus, I screamed at Meryl Streep’s cameo at the end.

Overall, I’d say that it’s a great feel-good movie if you watch without analysing it so much like I did.
