I have always been a casual listener of Dua Lipa. Until recently. She was my first ever artist I saw live. I simply cannot shut up about the whole experience, I even wrote a whole blog post about it!

Okay, now to introduce you to ten of my favourite songs from Dua Lipa, let’s start with:

Be The One

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “Oh, baby come on, let me get to know you, just another chance so that I can show that I won’t let you down”

Her OG track. It’s an absolute bop and the first song I’d recommend to anyone wanting to start listening to Dua Lipa. Also, I knew this song before I knew her, so this is kinda the first song of hers that I listened to.

These Walls

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “They tell us, “Go and face your fears”, it’s getting worse the longer that we stay together”

This song is cute in a way, making light of a break up. At the same time, you can feel the pain of two people who know they’re at the end of their relationship with this ballad.

Happy For You

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “I must’ve loved you more than I ever knew, ‘cause I’m happy for you”

My angst-loving heart kinda liked the rock undertones of this song. I first heard it during the concert and fell in love instantly. Her showmanship made the performance memorable, which made me love the song even more.

IDGAF

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “I’m too busy for your business, go find a girl who wants to listen”

This song has always been a big mood. This was the first song of hers to be in my top 10 songs. Back in 2017, this song was on repeat. A LOT. Even during karaoke sessions.

New Rules

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “Now I’m standin’ back from it, I finally see the pattern”

The first ever song of hers that I remember listening to, while knowing she’s the singer. This was a bop when it first came out. The music video made me want a group of girlies to have a sleepover with too.

Don’t Start Now

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “I’m all good already, so moved on, it’s scary, I’m not where you left me at all”

A nonchalant queen. The attitude in this song, plus the beats are infectious. That’s why it’s always played at parties to hype people up. I totally see the appeal.

Dance The Night

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “Lately, I’ve been movin’ close to the edge, still be lookin’ my best”

This was on the soundtrack to the Barbie movie. The Barbies and Kens (and Allan) all danced to her song, so she’s a certified dance bop singer in the Barbie-verse too. Side note: I loved her as Mermaid Barbie.

Training Season

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “When I’m vulnerable, he’s straight-talking to my soul”

The beats in this song are perfect to brisk walk to during my daily office commutes. I saw TikTok videos where people were saying that this song was an affirmation spell and that’s how she got Callum. Not gonna argue with the TikTok witches.

Electricity (with Silk City, Diplo & Mark Ronson)

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “I wanna let you know, I’ll never let this feeling go, this love has no ceiling, I cannot deny”

Again, this is another straight-up bop. I can’t recall where I heard this song, but since then, it was in my Dance playlist on Spotify. Dua never misses with the beats, and this song is no exception.

No Lie  (with Sean Paul)

Spotify | Apple Music

Favourite lyric: “Get the vibe, it’s gonna be lit tonight”

I’ve always liked Sean Paul. I think he’s the king of dance music. Him and Dua Lipa on this track really killed it. This bop really gets me on my feet. Not surprising since it’s the result of the king and queen of dance making music together.

I know these songs are basic. But hey, I just went from a casual listener to a casual fan. Who knows? Maybe I might even be a bigger fan in the future and discover more lowkey songs.
