As I was going through some of my old cringe posts on Facebook, I came across the memes from that time. One of them? The Zombie Apocalypse Team meme template. Back then, my weeb self mostly filled it with anime characters (だってばよ).
Now that I’m over a decade older, here’s my pick of my dream team in case of a zombie apocalypse.
Team Leader
Me, obviously. Since I came up with the team, I’d say it’s only fair that I be deemed the leader of this group. Don’t like it? Too bad.
Brawler
For my muscle, I’d definitely be picking Tatsumi Oga from Beelzebub (of course, with Berubo on his back). Just picture Oga in his demon form. Protecting his loved ones. I just know he’d be undefeatable. Having Berubo there would be fun too. We’d also have additional backup from hell if needed, courtesy of Berubo. There’s the risk of them getting infected though, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Weapons Expert
I think the only clear contender for this position would be Diego Hargreeves from The Umbrella Academy. Imagine having someone who can stop or curve the trajectory of any weapon. Pair that with martial arts and lockpicking skills, and we’re golden! Diego is also loyal and has a protective nature to him, so I believe he’d be a perfect fit for the team. He’s also good at picking up languages, which is a great ability to have in our international team.
Brains
There are a lot of smart people I could have added. The shortlisted people include Light Yagami from Death Note, Sherlock Holmes, and Joe Goldberg from You. After thinking about it, I realised I can’t trust Light, I’m too soft to hear the unfiltered Sherlock, and Joe is obsessive. Eventually, I went with Morgan Gillory from High Potential. She’s brilliant and has good people skills. And I’d love to hear her nuggets of wisdom.
Medic
I contemplated having Castiel from Supernatural or Rapunzel from Tangled. But I think my top pick for a medic would be Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender. There’s too much red tape from heaven if Cas is our medic and Rapunzel could lose her powers if someone cuts off her hair. Katara was a prodigy of a water bender and used it to heal many times before at a young age. In addition to her healing powers, she can also attack and use blood bending if we need it.
Speed Fighter
The character that immediately came to mind was XLR8 from Ben 10. Of course, there are other faster characters but I think I’d appreciate having an alien in the team in addition to the current lineup. An alien may or may not be infected by the zombie virus even if he gets bitten, just like supernatural entities I guess. Consider it me covering all my bases. To be clear, I’d like for Ben to stay as XLR8 for more than the 10 minutes afforded by the Omnitrix.
Mascot
At first I thought I would choose Scooby Doo as the team mascot, but then I remembered how dependent Scooby is on food (Scooby snacks, anybody?). He would be a liability to the team because he might finish up our food. That’s why my choice for this role would be bbno$. Bro can cosplay all day errday as different characters and entertain (and occasionally ragebait) us.
Guy Who Dies First
Oof. As much as it would pain me to say this, I think I’m going with Dean Winchester from Supernatural. Him and his bro Sam die and come back to life every other episode so I guess they’d have enough plot armour (and divine intervention) to resurrect. Since Dean’s my favourite Winchester brother, I choose him. I’d also like to see his dynamic when interacting with this group of people.
Okay, from my pick now, you can clearly see I’m still very much a dork. I’m not apologising for it. As a matter of fact, I’m quite proud of this lineup. Future Anushiya can cringe too if she wants btw.
