I convinced my friends to go to a Lipstick Workshop with me!

I kept seeing ads on Instagram about DIY lipstick making and perfume making, which tempted me into knowing more. After researching my options, I thought that the lipstick workshop is quite worth it (since I’ve been having trouble finding lip colours that match my skintone and interest).

The workshop I chose was at Lipstick Diary in Bloomsvale Shopping Gallery. I booked a session for my friends and I to go on a random Sunday. Thank God for Syahirah because I didn’t even know where Bloomsvale was.

When we got there, we were handed pink aprons and had a bunch of colours and essential oils in front of us. We were briefed by the staff on what we’ll be doing, though they were there every step of the way.

How did we make our own lipstick?

Here’s a quick (maybe incomplete)  step-by-step.

We had to pick our favourite shade from the defaults. From our colour choice, they have the mixture formula on a sheet of paper. “Just follow the amount there”, they said, so we weighed the colours and added it to our beakers. We aren’t the most precise people but the staff said that a little less or more should be fine. I took it personally and put a little more of everything.

After the colours, we had to add a bit of jojoba oil for hydration, then choose a scent from the essential oils for our lipstick. I mixed rose geranium and orange for the most perfect smell ever.

mixing the gloss into the colour and scent mixture

After mixing those together, I chose to put some “gloss” because I didn’t want mine to be matte. My friend who wanted matte didn’t add this.

lipstick that has been baked

They baked the lipstick to solidify it, then put it into the casing. The process took about an hour so we had to kill time in the mall. There was nothing much there, but we did end up exploring the mall we otherwise wouldn’t.

two shades of lipstick, one more orange and another more red

I ended up with two shades; one more orange (left) and another more red (right). I paid a bit more for the casing that made it look premium.

Overall, it was a 10/10 experience. Might go again once these run out because I got to choose the exact shades that flatter my skintone and they smell AWESOME.
