I was always intrigued by the philosophical question, “How would you explain colour to a blind man?”. There might be a way to describe colours to someone who has never seen them. This would be my attempt at answering the question that has every philosopher cracking their heads.
Red
I would describe red as visually loud; it screams. When looking at something red, one can feel it staring back, ready to fight at any moment. It provides the feeling of confidence and fills one’s soul with passion, excitement and sheer adrenaline. Red is so energetic, it captures attention, and hardly lets go. In short, red is sexy and scary, both at once.
Blue
Blue, I would say, is the serenity of the waves brushing against the sands of the beach. It is the feeling of absolute calmness, the whisper of the wind in one’s ear. Though not exciting like red and given a bad reputation by the term ‘blues’, it provides a nurturing vibe to the observer. Because of that, I think of it as the most motherly of colours.
Yellow
Brilliant yellow is the colour of happiness and laughter. It is the feeling of the first ray of sunshine peeking through one’s window in the morning, illuminating their face. It is a colour of hope, which is no wonder royalty, especially here in Malaysia, often associate themselves with it. This colour is so magnificent, Coldplay wrote a song about it!
I believe that this question has long remained unanswered because everyone sees and experiences colours differently, thus, having different interpretations of the colours. I would like to conclude by saying that this is solely my interpretation and does not in any way reflect the views of anyone else.
